Bottles - Anna's

Painted directly in acrylic to allow rapid and free application of brush marks. Unusual for me to have tackled the whole composition as I am attracted to cropped images that leave a little for the viewer to work out.

Painted on primed heavy duty cardboard, this small acrylic study is owned by fellow painter and friend Monica. It's an unusual subject for me. As my craft and teaching specialism involves the reproduction of flowers, I draw and notate small, detailed botanical studies quite often and therefore would look for change in larger, more painterly pieces.

Bowl with Apple - my first studies done in 2003

This canvas is owned by Nancy in Canada and was a journey of discovery for me as I used oils and brush to apply the paint - foregoing my beloved pallet knife - whilst exploring form and the reflective properties of minimal, tonal colour.

A still-life setting was waiting for us one Friday in the Sewell's studio where we met once a week. Monica and I were to paint this with tuition and guidance from both Barbara and Marc. I chose to focus on this smaller cropped image. Later I worked a larger painting from this - see above - which was selected for the annual P.E.G.S. exhibition in my home city.
